Debbie Speicher’s primary question is “How can I help to empower you?” She believes collaboration and open dialogue with a client is critical to developing a lasting positive outcome. Her collaborative approach taps into what a client knows best, themselves and she customizes treatment using the client’s strengths and motivations. Debbie has extensive experience empowering clients no matter their situation or mental health challenges. She believes we can all be empowered to make choices that move life in a positive direction. She will develop purposeful goals that produce positive results for her clients .
Research carried out at the National Empowerment Center has shown that people can fully recover from even the most severe forms of mental illness. Debbie has in-depth knowledge and success treating clients with mental illness. In addition to working at Recovery NOW, she works for Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
The majority of Debbie’s client’s with an addiction have an underlying mental health condition. She has experience as a registered substance abuse counselor treating adolescents and adults successfully by empowering clients to change their behavior by teaching them to identify their thoughts, triggers and reactions.
Debbie has experience identifying behaviors that may benefit from preparing to change utilizing a harm reduction strategy. Harm reduction is the process of reducing the harm associated with substance abuse. She also assists clients with achieving and maintaining sobriety. Meeting her clients where they are at helps to motivate them towards positive change.
Trauma is unique to each individual in the way it affects both the physical body, mind and daily activities. Debbie begins treatment by establishing a safe comfortable space for clients. Clients begin the journey of understanding the responses of their mind and body and learn to gain back control giving them peace.
Every stage of life brings new challenges needing new tools to overcome them. Debbie brings the tools, inspiration and empowerment to help clients succeed in late adulthood. A healthy thought process is necessary to enjoy staying free of depression and other mental illness.
Debbie is available for career planning and advising. She has created a 10-step process to help adolescents and adults choose a career, make a career change, and identify their core competencies to help them advance in their career. Debbie has an M.B.A. and 18 years of marketing and business development experience working for some of the most admired companies which include Apple, Cisco, Ernst Young and AT&T in business development and marketing. Her focus on associate development and processes made her the go-to manager for up and coming talented associates.
Familiar herself with the challenges of parenting. Debbie believes in the concept of a positive parenting approach and works with the entire family unit as individuals and/or in a group setting This approach is a change of mindset from punishing bad behaviors to actively and creatively modeling and teaching your children about positive behaviors. Positive parenting helps to alleviate the common power struggles that exist between parents and children.
Couples therapy provides an opportunity to work through emotionally challenging problems. These problems can range from simple communication issues or significant disagreements, to substance abuse issues and psychological disorders. Debbie believes it’s never too late (or too early) to start putting a little more effort into your relationship. If you are part of a couple that would like to improve your connection, Debbie will guide you through activities and exercises to practice with your partner during the session to enhance your relationship.
Debbie takes a systems approach, and provides guidance to have the family work together towards a healthy family life. Debbie aims to aid family members in improving communication solving family problems, understanding and handling special family situations, and creating a better functioning home environment.
Co-dependency is usually rooted in a person’s childhood, Debbie’s treatment often involves exploration into early childhood issues and their relationship to current destructive behavior patterns. Treatment includes education, experiential groups, and individual and group therapy through which co-dependents rediscover themselves and identify self-defeating behavior patterns. Treatment also focuses on helping patients getting in touch with feelings that have been buried during childhood and on reconstructing family dynamics. The goal is to allow a person to experience their full range of feelings again.
